Interior of the Alohas New York retail store featuring a minimalist reception desk with logo signage, soft plaster walls, and open shelving displaying footwear.

(About Project)

This project marked Alohas’ U.S. debut and a deliberate step into physical retail. Opening their first permanent storefront in New York, the brand approached brick-and-mortar as an extension of its digital-first identity — calm, intentional, and product-led. The opportunity was to establish a strong street presence in a competitive retail landscape without disrupting the quiet, gallery-like atmosphere inside. Every signage decision needed to balance visibility with subtlety, ensuring the brand felt grounded in the city while remaining true to its minimalist ethos.

(Solution)

We designed and produced a retail signage that worked in quiet alignment with the architecture of the space. At street level, a bold yet minimal storefront sign establishes Alohas’ presence, offering clear visibility without overpowering the façade. Subtle window vinyls reinforce brand recognition while maintaining transparency into the store. Inside, the space is defined by soft plaster walls, muted finishes, and sculptural display plinths that give each product room to breathe. A refined interior logo and secondary marks were scaled intentionally — placed to feel integrated within the architecture rather than applied on top of it. Each signage element was designed to support the visual rhythm of the store, not compete with it.

(Result)

The completed signage system allows the space — and the product — to lead. From the sidewalk through to the sales floor, signage reinforces brand recognition while preserving the calm, considered atmosphere Alohas is known for. The result is a New York storefront that feels confident but understated — where custom retail signage clarifies, grounds, and frames the experience without ever distracting from it.

(Signage Insights)

Fashion Retailers depend on strong storefront signage to capture attention and draw customers inside. In high-traffic retail environments, signage plays a major role in helping a store stand out while reinforcing the brand’s style and positioning.

Effective shoe store signage typically includes:

  • Exterior storefront signage or channel letters that create clear visibility from a distance

  • Blade signs or projecting signage that improve visibility along pedestrian streets

  • Interior brand signage that anchors the retail environment and reinforces brand identity

  • Wayfinding or category signage that helps customers easily navigate the store layout

Retail signage should work with the architecture and interior design of the space while remaining bold enough to attract attention in a competitive retail setting.

At Neon Studio, we design custom retail signage that strengthens storefront presence and supports a cohesive in-store brand experience.
