Minimal reception area featuring a ribbed wood desk with BEAM metal wall lettering, neutral plaster walls, and soft modern lighting.

(About Project)

Beam is a modern beauty and aesthetics studio in Manhattan Beach designed in collaboration with Elsie Home. Limewashed walls, pale timber, sculptural forms, and warm neutrals create a sense of quiet confidence from entry. The challenge for custom aesthetic clinic signage was restraint — in a space where materiality and texture do most of the talking, the sign needed to feel intentional rather than decorative. One refined brand moment at reception. That was the brief.

(Result)

The finished reception sign feels embedded in the experience of Beam — understated, confident, and quietly expressive of the brand. It anchors the space without pulling focus, reinforcing Beam's identity through materiality rather than volume. Aesthetic clinic signage that doesn't compete with the interior, but completes it.

(Signage Insights)

Aesthetic and beauty clinics need to project a particular kind of trust — quiet expertise and premium care, not clinical efficiency. Signage that's too graphic, too bold, or too digital-looking undercuts this positioning immediately.

Tone-on-tone dimensional metal for limewash and plaster interiors. This finish approach works especially well on limewash and plaster walls because both surfaces interact with light in ways that shift throughout the day. The sign reads differently at 9am than at 4pm, creating a dynamic quality that feels alive rather than static.

Iteration is part of the process. At Beam, we went through multiple rounds of finish testing and review before fabrication. For a sign in a space this considered, getting it right matters more than getting it done quickly. We build this review process into every project for design-led clients.

Interior design partnership. Beam was designed by Elsie Home — coordinating our work with theirs meant the sign was integrated into the spatial design from the outset, not retrofitted afterward. This is the difference between signage that belongs to a space and signage that's been added to it.
